| Set in the side of a mountain in the Umbrian countryside, the city of Assisi is a small medieval city that still breathes with the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare. We will leave on Friday, September 25, 2009 and return to New York on Monday, October 5, 2009. The retreat will be based on the life and charism of St. Francis in light of living the Christian life today. In the twelfth century St. Francis renewed the Church and inspired countless men and women to devote their lives to God's service. We will spend three days in Rome staying at Residenza Madri Pie, a religious pensione very near the Vatican. We will spend our time seeing some of the history and heritage of Rome. After three days in Rome, we will go to Assisi for five days where our retreat will end with the feast of St Francis on October 4th, a magical day of pagentry and procession. The entire city of Assisi will become our retreat house. There will be two conferences a day and Mass will be celebrated at different churches in the city. There will be ample time for private prayer and reflection and for visiting San Damiano and the Portiuncola in the valley and the Hermitage up the mountain. We will go by bus from Assisi to Rome to the airport for our flight to New York on Monday, October 5th. 206 Tours of Hauppauge is making our flight arrangements. I have tried to make this retreat as affordable as possible. I am making all the arrangements directly. I have based the cost of the trip on the euro as it is now. Should the dollar drop further, I will have to ask you to make up the difference. I can only accept payment by check made out to Assisi Retreat. Fr. Jim McNamara |
