A PIG IN THE OFFICE
Have you had a chance to stop by the office area and meet "Kevin Bacon"? He's our cute little "cutout" pig, and he LOVES to eat QUARTERS! Why? Because every time he fills up with quarters, we are able to purchase a real pig (or other animal) from Heifer International.
Heifer International is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization dedicated to ending world hunger and saving the earth by providing livestock, trees, training and other resources to help poor families around the globe become self-reliant.
Animals from Heifer provide milk, eggs, plowing power and other benefits that can mean improved nutrition, higher income, education for children, health care, improved housing and literally a new way of life.
Since it began in 1944, Heifer has worked directly with millions of families in more than 125 countries, helping to lift millions of people up from poverty and hunger to self-reliance. Heifer requires its recipients to "Pass on the Gift" by sharing offspring of their livestock with others in need.
"Since we began collecting quarters in April, 2004, $6,620 has been sent to Heifer for 38 animals. Our community has been able to directly lift 38 families up from poverty and hunger to self-reliance, and many other families through the "Pass the Gift" program.
As you can see, our quarters have the ability to empower many families to lives of hope, dignity and self-reliance. HOW AWESOME!!
If you would like to know more about this organization, either contact us in Parish Outreach or visit their website www.heifer.org. And don't forget to stop by the office with your spare quarters for "Kevin Bacon".
