| Diocesan Financial Problems You may have read in Newsday that the Diocese of Rockville Centre has serious financial problems due to rising costs out pacing contributions. More than half of the parishes in the Diocese are in deficit spending in their operating budget. We are fortunate that up to this point we have not ended a year in deficit, but now our costs are increasing while our collections are not. Consequently the Diocese is offering employees, who qualify through age and years of service, a voluntary separation package. This will affect a number of our employees who are eligible. I ask your prayers and support as we move through this transition and I commit to you our intention of keeping our parish the welcoming and caring community we have always been When St. Paul wrote to Timothy and the community he cared for, Paul encouraged them to stir into flame the gifts they have been given. I am sure that is what we will do together here at Holy Cross. Fr. Jim |
